After 20 years away from it, I've started Taekwondo again. Our kids have been taking it for a while, so my wife and I decided to join in and make it a family activity, hopefully we'll all be with it for a long time together.
It's hard getting those hip joints moving again. And pretty embarrassing to see just how much speed and flexibility I've lost. But, I've got to say, I'm enjoying the hell out of every workout. We have a family workout together once a week, and then separate ones for kids and adults on other days. Can't wait to make my kids proud when I start testing in front of them.
Anyway, for any of you who've debated getting into martial arts as a family activity, I'd suggest giving it a try. Families don't do much together sometimes these days it seems.

Good for you bc. I still train two or three days per week and never get tired of it. Hope you stay with it. -- -Larry

Should've never quit. I remember one Kempo instructor I had who told me to never stop working out or all the little injuries would add up and really make me feel old. Well, he was right.
Once I get going solidly with TKD again, I may add some Krav Maga, which is also available locally and our school has a good relationship with that program. My old TKD school incorporated a lot of Hapkido and other disciplines for rounding out the hand to hand and weapons defenses. I think KM would be a great addition, and perhaps I can get the rest of the family interested in time.
