1997 1. Jan Ullrich (G), Telekom 2. Richard Virenque (F), Festina 3. Marco Pantani (I), Mercatone Uno
So in 1997 BiG Jan won the Tour de France ahead of 2 of the most notorious dopers of late in the sport of cycling. This begs the question of; what was Jan on??

Lance had testicular cancer.
It did spread to his lungs and brain, but it wasn't lung cancer.

Jan paid his dues and did the saddle time. Richard was never a contender when a full field was around and Pantani was only a winner when the real contenders were not there to contend. Climbers they both are/were, overall winners they are not and were not. Jan has been right there all the time. He is one of the greats in cycling today and has really done nothing that should bring negative reactions. Ken

joking about recreational drugs aside, Ullrich has ridden consistently across many years = probably no performance enhancing drug use.
