  1. Guys

I've just received my MLTE logbook in the post this morning (course is next
month) and was looking thru the details of experiences to fill in. I've
checked the handbook and there appears to be no mention of any age to the
information you can add to this logbook. In that for many years now I have
taken friends and colleagues on mountain walks.

So can this information be entered or is there a natural age of information
that realistically should not be added into the logbook before attending the
    course

What they are looking for is experience. Obviously the more walking
you have done, in particularly leading friends etc., the better. Put
everything down. If you are telling 'porkies' they will soon find you
    out.
    All the best.

I put significant hill days / trips in mine that went back fifteen years
and didn't receive any feedback as to if that was a good thing or a bad.
In my case I was going straight for the assessment so had to demonstrate
enough experience to be exempt from the training & subsequent log book
    phase.

The people running the course can use your logged experience as a starting
point to judge what level you are at, so book it all down. Ultimately, how
you respond to your training and how you prepare yourself by getting further
quality hill days before the assessment is the main issue.

I had exactly the same conversation with MLTE a a while back. I don't
think they'll mind my sharing thier answer with you....

Dear Chris, yes, certainly, all of your past experience counts and
can be recorded in your logbook. If you wish you may attend
assessment soon after completing training, there's no set period
    between the two.

I have read all the other replies and find myself in minor
    disagreement.

I suggest that if you have been on a significant number of walks over
the years you log only those sufficient to show that you have a range
    of different mountain experiences.

For example, if you have only walked on Dartmoor once, that walk
should be logged, but if you have walked on Dartmoor 6 times per year
for 15 years, log only the most significant few.

Also log interesting events such as a compass mis-reading due to
proximity to ice axe, or helping a lost person/group get on the right
track. I saw a Brocken Spectre from the top of Y Gribin a couple of
weeks ago - that's worth recording.

IIRC you need a minimum of 40 quality mountain days logged before
assessment. Logging more than 100 would seem excessive.
