Not really a quiz, sorry about that, but one to get you thinking about
anyway.
I've recently received an e-mail via my website from a chap in Canada,
asking if I could help him identify a mountain he climbed when visiting
Britain last year. From the e-mail I surmised that the mountain is
probably in Snowdonia (but I may be wrong), but I replied to him asking
for more details, which I've now received. There are some details he
has given about a monument at the top with a plaque, but I'm not sure
whether it is a memorial or just a trig pillar. Can any of you lot
help with his quest - I've pasted both his e-mails below.
Cheers, Simon

The Mountains of England and Wales
1st e-mail:
I climbed up a mountain in whales last year with my cousin. I can not
remember the name of it and was hoping with all your experiance you
might be able to help me.
When we left Manchester it took us about 2 hours or so to reach the one
we decided to climb. It was a good drive into whales. On the way up we
found a run down house or shack thing and at the top there was a stone
marker about 3 to 4 feet tall, I believe it was from a husband to his
wife something to that effect. It was at the highest peak of the
mountain. We did encounter other climbers so Im guessing this is a
popular climbing mountain.
Well Im hoping with the little bit of info I gave you that you might
remember which mountain this was if you had been there. There was also
trails and steps that were made to help you climb the walls before you
got to the base of the mountain.
2nd e-mail:
Thanks for your reply . I realized after I sent the email how I was
spelling Wales force of habit. Yes I am in Canada, I was born in
liverpool .I was over last year visiting relatives thats when we did
the climb.
Your website is great I spent sometime on it yesterday. Well done.
We parked roadside, We had a good walk before we got to the base of the
mountain, I remember there was a few big hills we had to climb before
we reached the base. On the way we ran into what I think was a farmers
road that helped our walk a little. With a gate on it,the run down stone
hut we ran into did have what looked like someone had started mining
into the mountain. There was not much of a cave but you could tell that
they wanted to start mining there. At one point about half way up ( if
not less) it leveled of and there was a little pond.As we we got alot
closer to the top there were lots of huge bolders that had come down
from the top of the mountain to the point where hundreds of them had
piled up. So you were climbing on tones of piled bolders with lots of
shakey smaller ones .The top had a man made memorial made from I think
brick or concrete ( it was not just rocks piled on top of one another.
I believe there was also a plaque you could read that said something
about a wife I think it even had a drain on it because I left a few
Pence inside the hole so I could prove oneday I had been there) I cant
really remember I was so excited to reach the top that things ar a
blurr. Someone had also built a BIG stone circle of rocks maybe
swimming pool size. At the top there was one part that was a sheer drop
nothing like what we had climbed up to reach the top. This was vertical
Mountain side.
Did i mention sheep they were everywhere.
We did drive threw lots of steep valleys too. I remember this because
my cousin was scaring the [censored] out of me. all the way. On the way back
we did hit a little town where we stopped for some over cooked chips
but we were starved so they were good.
