news server question

I currently use Netscape's old email/newsgroup reader. I think the
firefox group now makes one that I should probably try out, but haven't
gotten around to it. Anyone know if that's true and if so have you used
it and if so is it a decent interface?

I switched to Individual.de because my ISP basically doesn't care, one iota,
about newsgroups. When there'd be a problem with service or the feed, I was
sent into the black hole of Calcutta.

I am not sure what I'm going to do.

At 10 Euros per year (what's that, less than $15?), I may just pay them
for the benefit of accessing a news server even when I'm not sitting at
the end of my cable modem. I haven't seen any other pay for usenet
provider that will sell me a calendar quarter's access for what
individual.net charges for a year.

I've been very happy with Individual's service, so I'll just pay the whole buck
a month (10 Euro a year) it's going to cost.

I am leaning the same way. My ISP doesn't have a news server and
individual.de has worked pretty well. The free Mozilla news client is
called Thunderbird, by the way, and I like it very much. It has the
same look and feel as Outlook Express.

Thunderbird is much worse -- it's actually usable, and it has extremely
limited virus propagation capabilities. 😉

OE only spreads viruses if your machine is infected, my old Thinkpad still
runs WIndows 98se and I have two virus scanners plus an adware spyware
scanner and my machine never has any sort of infection.
