If anyone fancies a few days of winter survival then how's this.... I'm flying to Edingurgh tonight and then, at stupid-o-clock tomorrow morning, taking the chopper shuttle to Aviemore where I'm leading a winter survival course out into the Cairngorms. Hmmm....should be lovely..temperature last night was down to a measly -14C.
I may get one more course in before the 'warm' weather sets in and spoils all the fun.

Coldest I've ever camped was somewhere in the -18C ( was told it came down to -21C at some point during the night). Everthing was frozen. The sleeping bag was rated at -20 and I was still cold despite having all my clothes and hats on. The gas cannisters in the next tent froze solid. All my water was frozen. Oh and the tent was as ridget as a sheet of thin steel.
The greatest thing was the clarity of the night sky. Fab views of every speck of stars.

I had very similar conditions in Braemar one year - got down to around -18. Best thing about it is a toss-up between the storage radiators in the toilet bloack and the amazing Aurora we saw.
