  1. Looking to add to my comfort bike with something a little more speedy and better built. I've been looking at the SL, Montar and 7700. All have similar hybrid designs which I tend to prefer due to needing a more upright ride. Of course it will all come down to how they fit but was wondering about any experiences anyone might have had with any of these. Equipment levels range from deore/ultrega for the Giant, deore/xt on the Fisher to deore xt all around on the Trek. Tire sizes also vary from 25's on the Giant, 32's on the Trek and 42's on the Fisher. The fisher is also the only one of the 3 with a front shock fork.

  2. What was the question?

I have had my Giant Cypress for more than 3 years now. I like it but:
I don't especially like the aluminum frame, I find it too rigid for long rides. I ended up changing the bars to drops and that helped. I don't like the fact that it doesn't come ridable, unless of course you prefer plastic pedals. I also had to make gearing changes to make it work for me.

That said, I do like the way you sit on the bike and the longer shaft pedals, and I like to basic fit and finish of the bike. That said I'm not sure I'd buy another Giant even though the service from my Giant dealer has been great.

My next bike: A custom built tourer with a steel frame. I'm doing more touring now and the Cypress seems to be a better commuting bike.

  3. The question would be which of those would be the overall best in terms of bang for the buck? There is such a wide variation in price per equpment level on each. The mix on the giant and fisher make it somewhat less easy to compare with the trek. Mainly looking to add cycling back into my fitness mix after being gone from it for several years following multiple back and joint problems. Needing to get rid of this gut I built up and got the itch to ride again now that my knee probs are mostly past me.
