  1. On uk.local.scot-highlands there's a posting stating that Bynack Stable's
blown down. A good thing too, I say, as it wasn't so much a stable as a
pigsty! I hope it isn't rebuilt as it had become too accessible for
    inconsiderate walkers and bikers.

I thought it was dismantled last year. Or am I getting it confused
    with something else?

I went past it a couple of times last summer and it was still standing!

I went past last Sunday and it had been blown onto the path, landing
    upside down I think.

I agree the wreckage should now be removed, along with the base. Ryvoan
is close enough if shelter is needed.

There was a proposal to get rid of it last year but it got a stay..
Looks like The Great Bothy Vandal had other ideas...

Ah, so I wasn't entirely deluded then :-)

The RSPB had planned to demolish it in 2003 but local community leaders
objected, saying it might save lives, and the demolition never took
place. It certainly won't save any lives at present.

The RSPB now say that its future is under review "because of this latest
development" and that Nethy Bridge Community Council has been informed
and their views sought. I guess they could replace it with another
shelter. Apparently this one was a replacement for the original wooden
    hut, which burned down.

I have a copy of Irvine Butterfield's "Survey of the Shelters in Remote
Mountain Areas of the Scottish Highlands, dated 1979, which calls it
"Nethy Hut or Pit Fyannich". The description suggests nothing had
changed since 79 until this January.
