About 2 months ago my old toaster finally bit the dust. I zipped over to Target and purchased a Hamilton Beach 4-slice Toaster which looked pretty good. It had several different bells and whistles and about 6 push buttons for everything from bagels to toaster pops. Paid about $40.00. What a piece of [censored]. It takes forever to toast 2 slices of bread and if it's anything but Wonder Bread (AKA Cotton) one has to toast it twice to get a nice crisp toast.

It's not just the 4-slice toaster! Their budget (US$9.00) 2-slice toaster is just as bad! I've had lousy experiences with everything coming out of Hamilton Beach for the last two decades. The 2-slice toaster was the final straw.

I have a Kitchen Aid and I love it. Its a 2 slice model long and slim as opposed to the traditional boxy toaster. It fits nicely against the back of the counter and does not take up a lot of space. Its very streamlined looking and makes great toast.

Dimitri old buddy, I'm sorry that I don't own a 4 slicer. Also, my toaster is about 20 years old. So no modern data. But just to be somewhat helpful, I purchased a Rival for US$9.00 at Kmart and it has worked perfectly for all this time and is still going strong.
The blueprints for making decent toasters were stolen by the Commies some fifty years ago.
Apparently, the appliance industry hasn't been able to develop a suitable replacement.... despite spending millions of dollars on advertising.

I have a Cuisinart. Do not like it at all. It has 7-8 darkness settings, but just like the hot water faucet in the shower, all but 2 are useless.

We have an Oster thatwe purchased sometime last year because our DeLonghi was too frustrating to use. It just took "too Longhi" to toast bread, among other things.. IIRC, the cost of this appliance was about $40-50. We have used it for lots of baking tasks and are quite satisfied with it. It's black with chrome trim piece around the glass door (also a plus) because it goes with our kitchen.
