  1. Hey gang,

I've been out of the ng loop for a while, but have continued to run
strong and steady, with a couple of May races already lined up (Ottawa
Early Bird Triathlon, and Ottawa National Capital), and am popping back
here to ask an "emergency" question.

My Timex 100-Lap Ironman Triathlon watch is.... how shall I put it....
biting the dust. When I recently took it to shop for a replacement
battery, the useless salesperson buggered up the "gasket" or rubber ring
that encircles the battery compartment to keep moisture out. he couldn't
even get at the battery, let alone fix or replaced the ring he ruined. I
told him to just stop what he was doing, and I took the watch elsewhere
(should never have taken it to that first place). The second shop made a
valiant effort to remedy the problem with a new rubber ring, but it just
didn't work out. I went for one swim with it on, and the watch was full
of water. Hurried home, dried it out, and it works again. But not in
    water.

So... I've got this 5 year old watch (got it for only about $30 CAN)
that still works (with great features like 100-lap memory recall,
variable interval timer, training log to store all lap info, displays
lap, split, cumulative time and lap number, etc), but I can't really use
it unless in guaranteed dry conditions. Can't use it in a triathlon,
obviously, and a rainy or heavy sweat workout or race could spell
    trouble.

I can't locate this old model any longer and am trying to find something
comparable that doesn't cost 50 or more dollars. The same types of
watches today are in that price range. I need a DEAL! Any suggestions
about what model(s) to try out, and stores (I'm in Ottawa, Canada) or
    online places to shop at?

Any help would be much appreciated! A personal e-mail is preferable
since I may not get to the ng that often.

    Many thanks!

    Cam

Campmor.com has some of the best prices and selections for Timex Ironman
watches. They do ship to Canada.

    It's under the sofa.

  4. Cam, I saw the watch in the gift shop in a Veterans Hospital a month or so ago.
It sold for about $30. I tried to email you but the message bounced hence the
reply via the N.G. If you want I can pick one up and mail it to you. Let me
know. If you reply via email to me [email hidden] then I should be able to get
a message to you and attach a picture of the watch in question to make sure its
    the one you want.

The casio STR101C-2V 60 Lap Memory about $30-35 and likely cheaper if
you want to shop around. It also has big numbers.

I took my Timex 100 lap with all it's crapola and use it to tell time
whan I'm painting houses. The Casio has all that I need - KISS - Keep
    is simple....

Sure, I'll get you two of them, one to [censored] on and one to cover it up with.

Won't that steam up the glass?

  9. I took the link and looked at the casio, sounds awfully complicated. Does all
that [censored] make you run faster or is it like pool cues, you buy a $2,000 stick
and some 14 year old hustler walks in and takes everyone's money shooting with
a beat up old stick off the wall.
