Big necked shirts

You might be able to find a local tailor or seamstress shop that can
alter shirts for a much smaller fee than expensive tailored shirts
or clothing shops that offer tailoring. (Women often find they can
save a lot of money taking a bridesmaid gown to a local shop instead
of having the alterations done by the bridal shop).

Unless you want to take up learning to sew....

Have you tried the old standbys - JC Penneys and Sears? I know
Penneys does custom shirts, and wouldn't be surprised if Sears did
too. My husband is very tall (6'5"😉 and thin, but his shoulders are
broad enough that when he had his Army dress blues made they had to
start with a size 44 Tall jacket and then almost completely remake it
- took the pocket flaps off to move them, had to cut the collar area
down and slim the sleeves down a bit as well. He can get custom made
shirts from Penneys though, so perhaps they can help you as well.

Really?? Sears?? Penney's???!!? I can't imagine either of those places
making custom shirts but I'll give it a shot. How is the old man anyway? Any
closer to a Harley?

Whenever I look at the subject line of "Big Necked Shirts", it makes me
think it would be a good title for a rock (or folk) song, but now the
chorus to "Fat Bottomed Girls" keeps going through my head :-)

It's not quite as custom as you'd get if a tailor made it from
scratch, but using the range of options available it's close. :-)

He's doing much better these days. The amputation went well, the
prosthetic fittings (both myoelectric and cable-driven) also went well
and he's using them hard enough to break stuff on them all the time.
<G> He's got a weightlifting attachment now and can do pullups with
one of the "hooks". He's doing pushups now too and his chemo is all
done so he looks human again. He's also back to running. He's still
in the Army and nobody is talking about boarding him out so far.
The bike hasn't happened yet, but another biggie did - we bought a
house. :-)
All in all, life is pretty good. :-)

Glad to hear that Uncle Sugar didn't summarily muster him out over a piddly
thing like a missing hand. Bought a house? That's cool. Seeing's how I'm a
Realtor I'm always happy when someone buys a house. Look me up if a PCS to
Fort Lewis is in your future. As for me, I'm about to end a 22 year run of
blissful singularity by marrying my best friend, Aileen, on Valentine's Day.

To a lesser extent. 5'6" 200# with a 17.5" neck. My torso is
somewhat out of proportion to my body so I don't look short
while I'm sitting. The low center of gravity was an advantage
playing soccer in high school at least: bigger kids bounced
off me in surprise. My arms are matched to my legs so all
shirts that fit my torso are long on my arms and all shirts
that fit my neck and far too big on me.

My father had it worse. As a possible role model for Mr
Goodwrench I don't remember him even having a neck until a
few years after he retired and those big neck muscles shrank
to mortal size.

The simplist ones: I get short sleeved shirts and I don't
often button the top button. Even when I put on a tie and
draw it crispy the shirt under it is invisibily unbuttoned.
I also try to roll my cuffs at the office and that works at
most business casual places.

There is also a step between strictly rack shirts that never
fit well (you have it worse than I do) and full custom.
Some places do "semicustom" (not sure what it means but they
cost in between rack and full custom) and some places do
alterations.

It's not kindness...they have to allow him a certain amount of time
for recovery before they assess him for a permanent profile. Right
now he's on a temporary still - like it's going to grow back or
something? <G>
In the meantime he keeps pushing himself and living up to his own
expectations while he surpasses most other people's expectations for
him. Last week's 6 mile road march w/ruck saw him coming in at 5
minutes after the leaders (and he's 41). If they do push him out
it'll be because the regs leave them no leeway. Despite Bush's
declaration that any amputees who want can remain on active duty there
have been no reg changes to that effect.

Fort Lewis is a great area, but Howard said "No more PCSes!" and I
know he meant it because he's getting rid of all the original packing
materials for appliances that are past their warrantee periods. I'm

Ha! I knew it! Some years back when you and Howard chatted and you
ended up being a reasonable person when all was said and done I
figured you'd come around. :-) I am very happy for you and Aileen.
Marriages that start as friendships stand the best chance long term.
