Certainly the cholesterol skeptics make a good argument that the overall
death rate of statins isn't better than not taking statins at all.

Oh yeah, they make an even better argument that statins don't work by
reducing LDL -- they work through other techniques (such as reduction in
    c-reactive protein).

Unfortunately you don't list the previous test,
nor do you list what plan youre on nor for how
    long.

Could be anywhere from great through terrible.
Could be expected because you're to early in your
    plan to test.

  7. Those are very healthy numbers. DO NOT take the
statin drug. Read the material refered to in another
post. These drugs are not effective at reducing disease
and have horrible side effects (and cost money).

Your HDL and triglycerides are very good, look at one of the bookstore sites
for a book called (IIRC) '50 ways to lower your cholesterol' for help with
    lowering your LDL.

  10. you need to sit down and have a long discussion with your doctor.
if you question the use of statins, talk to him/her about it.
how long have you been low carbing?

there is a percentage of people who cannot safely lo carb. my total
cholesterol was 199. after low carbing 1 year it was 235 and my other
numbers weren't good either. the doc wanted to medicate me. instead, i
went on low fat/south beach for 6 months & my cholesterol fell to 180.
if you take the statins only do it for 1 month & get retested. if your
levels have dropped you can go off the drug & try south beach & get
    retested.

i'm not knocking low carb. it's just that everyone's body is different.
you must do what is best for you. your health is at stake here.
    good luck to you

Another option is the Goldberg/O'Mara plan, specifically designed as a
Low Carb plan for people with cholesterol issues. It's a low-carb,
high fibre plan which includes probiotics (such as live-culture
yoghurt or keffir daily) and many have found it works well for them.
    See http://members.tripod.com/go_diet/ for more details.

Isn't that the truth. My body responds best to 'classic' low carb
without the "Low Carb Products", yours (obviously) works best on a
lower fat plan. I love the flexibility of the Low Carb concept.
