if you google for e2e and other acronyms and tandem you'll find quite a few
tales of people doing it on a tandem , and they often include info as to how
they got back. But I agree about the difficulties and thats one reason we
are doing E2E in the JOGLE direction.

to Edinburgh at the end or Edinburgh to LE at the beginning.

No. You see, you can get to Penzance by train. This gets you to within easy
distance of LE. From JOG it's a two day ride to the nearest station that has
trains that will allow tandems. The closer stations such as Thurso are only
served by Scotrail who don't take tandems.

However, when I was in the JOG Hotel there was a notice about a local
mini-bus driver who would take cyclists and bikes back to Inverness.
I'd be surprised if he didn't take tandems.

Not sure how I've puzzled you. Were going from LE to JOG. We are starting
from LE so will be cycling to JOG. When we get to JOG it would be nice to
hear how people have got there tandems home again from there.

Thinking laterally - I assume there are 2 of you (it's a tandem, right?)
then it may be possible to take the tandem as luggage from Thurso or Wick
southwards - take the wheels off and wrap them in a parcel (black plastic
would be ideal) for one person to carry - the other person carries the frame
(with the bars turned and the saddles lowered) also shrouded in black
plastic as a "big parcel.

Also - depending on the time of the year Scotrail, I understand, also runs a
van for bikes to Inverness while the riders go by train - probably worth
asking them the question.

I'm doing the ride with Tumbleweed (qv post above) and we elected to do
JOGLE primarily because you can get from Penzance at the end of the ride to
our homes in about half a day - whereas to get home from JOG is a day and
half if you're lucky.

Thanks for that. One thing I have found out is that there is a LBS in Thurso
who will box up your bike and stick it on their courier and send it home for
