Small cut in tyre

If you havent; punctured yet, keep riding them. If they're not race wheels, get Mr Tuffy and you'll be able to ride them for a lot longer.

Is it just in the rubber? Or are there threads cut?
If there is a bulge or twist in the tyre, you have
trouble, obviously. Loosing a little rubber doesn't matter.

I've had Rubinos with small cuts all over them. I wouldn't worry too
much but keep an eye on it to make sure it's not getting bigger.

Most of the tyres I've ever had have ended up with loads of small
harmless cuts in them.

Get rid of it if the cuts get bigger. Or if $40 or so is a good price to
pay for peace of mind.

I've been riding the "Pro" version of these (same tyre just a folding
version) for a few years now on the road and find the rubber does get cut up
pretty easily but very rarely do I ever get a puncture from whatever made
these cuts. Unless the casing under the rubber is compromised the tyre
should still be ok. With the exception of three of these tyres (I cannot
remember how many I have gone through) I have always managed to get full
value out of the rubber. As for the three exceptions one, that had 4000+
kms, on it started to develop a bump in the sidewall which was no big deal
as it was getting close to being binned anyway. The others where destroyed
by a drill bit dropped on the road(this one really annoyed me cos it was a 2
day old tyre) and an unknown sharp object on the road that sliced a 4cm hole
in the sidewall (not so annoying cos the tyre was getting close to needing
replacement but it was damn inconvenient at the time).

If when I take them off the road bike they are still reasonably ok I usually
get a few more months out of them either mounted on my ergo or on my track
bike wheels that I train on. The fact that the tyre has worn a square
across the contact surface matters little in these circumstances.

To answer your Q re is it still ok to use I would say yes if the casing
under the rubber is not damaged. If the tyre develops any bulges then
replace it ASAP.

applying superglue to the gap (take tyre off to do this...) can do the trick too. Note, mark location of cut before removal of tyre cos once the pressure isnt on anymore the cut 'dissapears'...
