  1. Interesting article in New Scientist today.

    "Brimstone & bicycles"

    Linking the 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia with average global
    temperature drop of 3C, associated climatic events such as crop failures,
    lack of "summer" in 1816, Mary Shelly writing "Frankenstein" and Karl-Drais
    inventing a replacement for the horse... the bicycle.
