I had the misfortune of breaking my neck at work. I'm alive and looks good to have a full recovery with use of all limbs!! God was on my side that day. Anyhow I don't even know if the doctor will let me ride again, If he does I may need a SPECIAL helmet. I'm just throwing this out there to see if anyone knows of a particular manufacturer that will do such things? I"ve yet to contact anyone for it will be a long road to recovery. Still have to ask doctor if I gonna need a particular type of protection.
I’d as the doctor, about the recovery. I’m no expert, but the bone I broke in my arm 42 years ago never has broken again. And I’ve fallen on the same arm more than once during the last 42 years. I would hope that if your neck heals properly you wouldn’t need a special helmet.
And to directly answer you question, no I don’t know of any special helmets. But you could email Giro, or Bell (etc…) once you learn of any special needs you may have.
Good luck with your recovery….

Whether you are able to ride or not again is dependent on the nature of the fracture and changes caused by the injury. If the doc says it's ok to ride, then the type of helmet you choose won't matter. A helmet isn't designed to reduce axial, torsional, or whatever loads on the spinal column: it's just supposed to keep your nugget, uhm, nugget-like.
That said....I broke my neck racing motorycycles, and the doctor that treated me imposed no limits on my activities after healing. In fact, I went on to successfully have more, high speed mangling crashes.
Thanks for those reponses, I just got out of the hospital so havn't much chit chat with the doc yet. I"ve heard that a lot of healed bones will be stronger, that's sure my hope well thanks all, hope to be riding again in a few months
