After purchase do you always try them on at home with underwear first to make sure they are ok before you go commando in them?

Shops will usually let you try them on on the condition that you don't go commando. 😄
They can be pretty expensive and the sizes can be very misleading so I'd shop somewhere where you can try them on.

I'd NEVER consider buying shorts w/o trying them on al natural... where the seams, chamois land against your skin, how they feel, how the elastic feels, etc. are pretty darned important after 30-40 miles! If it gives you heebie jeebies to try 'em on, find what works for you and stick to it. And if you're asking about cycling SHORTS take a giant step forward and try on some cycling BIBS.

always try them on its not worth getting home and after your first ride coming home and regreting buy those knicks!...and i agree once you find a brand and style you like stick to it. Knicks are all about personal preference gotta find what works for you.

Couldn't agree more. After my first bib I found my nix just gathered dust and grew mushrooms. I got a tailor to sew the bibby bit and they feel just like the real thing.

I take or wear a pair of very tight jockey sports underwear with me to my LBS when I look for new shorts or bibs. After riding for so many years though I know what brands I like and pretty much know what size will fit me. I usually order through the internet and so far I have never returned a pair of shorts, bib shorts, or bit tights that I have purchased online.

I must admit that once I tried bibs that that is all I pretty much purchase now. Still have a few pair of plain shorts though. 😄

I agree with all of you that suggesting bibs, I switched over a few months ago and really like the feel and support they give. Lately I've had a problem with the shoulder straps rubbing on and irratating my nipple. I'm using the Pearl Ultra Sensor bibs. Has anyone else had this problem, if so, how did you deal with it?

Good base layer, such as Craft, or you can go the exotic dancer route with the band-aid pasties.

2. just to throw it out as something to try... long time ago I had a bib that had straps that didn't fit my shoulders right for some reason and kept riding out from my neck towards my arms... mildly irritating, but easily fixed by tying a piece of string between each bib strap to keep them from riding out. might want to reign in the straps a bit in that area.

Does anyone know where I can find reasonably priced bibs in 3XL or 4XL online?

Definitely try on shorts before purchasing if they are a new brand to my wardrobe. I don't go commando in the dressing room. Which brings a new thought. 😕 Do you wash before wearing your new bibs or shorts? Someone (with something) may have been there before you? :eek: Obsessive/Compulsives need not reply. 😉

Having never worn bibs, I would like to know what is it that makes them more comfortable? or makes the shorts less comfortable?

Any tips on how to know whether bibs fit? Others have noted problems of the straps slipping off the shoulder or chaffing the nips. Is this the result of a poor fit or some of the things bib wearers tolerate?
