  1. Does anyone have a good cabbage roll recipe using saurkraut on top? I had
it over the holidays and it was awesome!!! Just wondering if i would just
throw the saurkraut over top before baking or is there any special way of
doing it? I love cabbage rolls and really want to try making them so any
advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance

Holubky. You could put some kraut in the bottom of your pan, layer the
holubky on top, almost cover with tomato juice, then spread the rest of
the kraut on top. Or put the kraut on the holubky before pouring the
tomato juice over all of it. Cover and bake at 350 for about and hour
and a half. A Google groups search here should turn up some
particulars if you need them. I use ground beef, onion, and rice for my
filling -- some s&p, and an egg to bind it.

  3. Well I enjoy doing my Cabbage rolls in a crock pot.
I make a beef mix of ground beef and rice.
I do it by look. Don't get carried away with the rice it will expand.
Take a knife and remove the core of a large head of Cabbage.
Place the cabbage in a pot of boiling water and remove the leaves with a
fork as the head of cabbage cooks.
There is a large vein on each cabbage leaf that I use a small knife to thin
    out to allow folding.
Place a generous amount of the meat filling on a cabbage leaf and roll and
fold. I place jowl bacon skin on the bottom of a crock pot and layer
cabbage rolls and sauerkraut until filled. I put the rest of the jowl bacon
and a ham hock in the pot.
Cook the rolls for 8 hours on low and enjoy.
I do not put tomato or ketchup in the pot.
