Cabbage Patch Glue Kids

I get the patch glue in small squeeze tubes that have screw on cap with a
point that is used to punture the metal seal before first use. After first
use I take the plastic backing from the patch and place it over the tube end
(its sticks to the glue on the edges, but is easily pulled off later), and
then screw the cap back onto the tube. This keeps the air out and the
opened tube of glue remains good indefinately (so far probably about two
years).

On a side note but not so interesting is that this magical evaporating glue is no longer allowed on airplanes as hand or checked luggage!! Some bollocks about flamable liquids. (So no more mile high sniffers club for you Mr Hippy!)

So if your going to fly to a tour perhaps some of those not so useful auto seal patches are the go.

Also any used MSR stoves are no longer allowed -even empty and dry and opened!!! (They confiscated my mates at Melb the other day - well offered to store it for $12 a day but over a month that didn't seem worth it..)

But of course you can still carry fully loaded cigarette lighters in the plane.. (WTF?)

A few years back I had a mall bottle of oil confiscated by an over
zealous security guard. Yet they still encourage people to carny on
"duty free" bottles of who knows what!

The lid makes all the difference. Brilliant safety feature. It doesn't
matter that as soon as I put a deo can in my bag the lid falls off.

When I flew to Tassie I read the instructions and found out that you
can't pack hexamine tablets. Kind of understandable. Except that every
member of the ADF who flies with their pack/webbing probably has some
hexamine in a stove/brew kit that they forgot about...

I don't think stoves have every really been allowed there has just been more awareness of them by check-in staff / luggage
inspectors in the last few years. Recently the rules have been changed to allow stoves and empty fuel containers to be carried
provided they are prepared & packed correctly.

Apparently only petrol stoves.
My dry trangia is fine. The butane thingy (Kovea?) is ok without the gas bottle. You need to buy a new one when you land.

These rules are new and unwritten.. no stove _fuel_ was the old rule, but overzeallous security people are not allowing any stove stuff if it smells like fuel.

Best to pack them in the hold, after a full dry out and perhaps a spay of deodorant/perfume... The only time I have issues is if I pask it in the hand luggage. THat MSR bottle looks pretty darn suss on the Xray machine!

(Last time they took my allen keys but left me with my steel pencil!! I even showed them the nasty sharp thing!! Apparently the allen keys are a sharp tool but the pencil is ok as its a writing impliment. No reasoning allowed - just follow the rules .. Hmmm)
