Hello all. I am intrigued by some of the GPS-bike units that are starting to appear, especially the Garmin Forerunner series. I was unconvinced of the 201, as I would still have to lug around a HRM. But I just stumbled across the 301, which includes an HRM, and it's gotten me thinking... it is pricey (around USD 300, Euro 400), but is it time to go shopping? 😕
I'm quite content using seperate gps (garmin gecko, nice & small but still more navigation functionality than the forerunner from what i can tell there) and hrm.
Stay on the trails, and ya wont really need a GPS. I take a topo map and compass on epic rides or backpacking. But if ya follow the trails, they take you where ya wanna go.

a buddy uses gps on his road bike.... it has a black and white display... after about only a year, the display is starting to fail. for work, he has lots of other gps units that have not had a display problem.
he thinks the gps display problem is due to fatigue related to vibrations... he has it mounted to his handle bars.
i'm waiting till i hear that the units hold up better. .. otherwise its to rich a toy for me.

I have a GPS receiver, but I don't use it so much for cycling. I have the Garmin Venture....its downfall is no built in maps, and no mapping capability. But I'm using it for geocaching mostly, so mapping isn't such a problem.
