Moots Frames

frames in the world, and some even claim to be helping the Chinese people
out of their poverty and on the road to democracy and riches. So, as
usual, first hand experience required.

Has anyone ridden/owned/got a mate who know anything about them?

I'm fairly sure you didn't get a reply to the Setavento thread because
no-one had anything useful to add - you seemed to have done a fair amount of
research yourself!
I can't add anything useful to your request for info on Moots - again
because it's fairly specialised for this group. You might get better results
from alt.mountain-bike especially as it is an American product. However as
an aside if you are considering titanium you might want to go the whole hog
and get made to measure - about £1000 from Omega cycles in Brighton who will
build what you want. Then build up the frame with bits of your choice or
they will do it for you.
No connection other than as a satisfied customer.

would acttually prefer not buy American but almost all of this market
seems North American based.

The big attaction with Moots was the fact they sell it as an option. I
dont have to explain to anybody about two gear cables and no cable stops
at all.

Good luck! They seem to understand about the Rohloff hub and they are pretty
quick on the uptake and will not try and sell you something that you don't
want. Thier website http://www.omegacycleworks.co.uk/custom.htm is probably
worth a look and they do make titanium forks if that's what you want.

Moots are handmade frames by a rather quirky frame builder in the US.
They have a very good reputation.

and the rubber bung in the gap. Very nice it was too and I'd have no
problem buying a Moots on the basis of that.

My main ride is one of the Chinese-fab-Ti competition - a Habanero. I
certainly love Ti as a frame material, so long as you're not paying
Litespeed prices for it.

Couldn't agree more. I'm very happy with the quality of my Habanero and
at a much more sensible price for a custom frame than elsewhere.

The decals are a bit weak, but that's about my only complaint 🙂

They tend to do things on their frames that no-one else is doing at the
time. They made one of the first soft tails - the YBB or Y Be Beat by
cutting the seat stay, putting an elastomer in and using the chain stay
flex. Others have copied them since. They do have a following though.
