Worked fine! (I don't think the <URL > bit did anything though).

    Thanks for the link.

  6. Agreed. Looked at the prices last summer - it was still cheaper to pay the
£15 either way for the bike on a plane as long as you booked early enough
    for the bargain seats.

Big plus is the flexibility of what they will carry.
I doubt your flight would have taken 2 adults, 4 children, a tandem
trike, a tandem, two bikes and a Burleytrailer, plus camping gear, as
the Bike Express did for us to see the Le Tour a few years back.

But if, like me, you live within 5 miles of one of their pick up points but
miles from a low cost airport you can save a huge wedge that the railways
need to get you to an airport and hours of fun sitting on sweaty trains.

    Pretty much balances the sums.

Never had the bike damaged with them though, have with the airlines.
Fortunately coming back both times, would have spoiled the holiday if it
had been going out. BA coughed up for repairs, no experience of the
    cheap & cheerful brigade.
Bike bus took the recumbent last year, could imagine it would be an
    experience on a plane.

Michael O'Leary of Ryanair would probably say "Well what do you expect
for the peanuts you paid? If you didn't want it damaged you should have
    cycled it home"
