If Dr. Atkins suggests we get most of our carbs from vegetables, why does he
limit us to only
2 or 3 cups per day? And then for induction he says to stay with the lowest
carb veggies, like
spinach or lettuce. My semi-daily 3 cups of broccoli are a compromise!
That's only about 6
net carbs per day. Did he really think this through?

net carbs per day. Did he really think this through?I can't answer for him, even if he was alive. I think the idea is to
severely restrict your carb intake to start with. I found that I would lose
while adding almost any green veggie daily.

That's only about 6 net carbs per day. Did he really think this
through? If you want, you'll be able to have more as the diet progresses. The
cup limits you mentioned apply only during Induction (two weeks). -

Induction phase, calculated to last a mere 2 weeks out of the rest of your
life. He doesn't say to "stay with the lowest carb veggies" but with the
lowest glycemic index ones (which can also be the ones with the most fiber). You do have the book, right?

Actually I have Atkins Diabetes Revolution. Honestly, I'm not that worked
up about
the veggie limit. It just seems a little contradictory to say 2-3 cups
should provide most
of a days carbs. I'll be happy if I can figure what to do with this turky
ham. I like to have
a pound of meat over 1 or 2 sittings, but it is 1 carb/2 oz. I could have
a pound tonight and
just tuna and mayo later. Or maybe just the ham. Yeah, just the ham. I do
expect to be
inducting for a month.Since 1/1/05: 187.5/-5/182.5

first place?
There are way more calories in the equivalent carbs of a pound of turkey ham
vs. a pile of vegetables.--

That's only about 6
net carbs per day. Did he really think this through? This limit is for INDUCTION. INDUCTION! INDUCTION! Have I made myself
clear? ;-) After induction, raise your carb limit, the way the book says
to do. Please read the book.--

If you are not comfortable with induction, it is possible to begin low carb
with more vegetables. I started my first few months at around 50 carbs (not
vegetables) and then later adjusted it downward. If Atkins was right in his
approach, skipping induction might reduce yours odds of success, but what
the hell. To make low carb a way of life, you need to be comfortable with
the way of eating.I don't like most vegetables, so I take supplements. If you love
vegetables, then why not indulge the lower carb ones?Cubit

I was pointed out to this a few days ago and it is on the website.-Well, it is about time that the website caught onto this.
I have been doing 4 cups of veggies on induction for some time.
