  1. So, I got me some bike insurance 2 days ago. So what, right? It's a
    sensible thing to have.

Yesterday, I left the house for a 40k ride after work. I had this
feeling that I'd forgot something, but I couldn't work it out, meh,
    can't be important. After 5 minutes of riding I realise I don't have a
helmet on, so I go back and get it.

Nearing the end of my ride, close to home, it was about 730pm. I was
heading east down this quiet back street. Just ticking along, maybe
going 30. It was a little glary, the sun was on my back.

There's a little tee intersection coming up, I'm on the straight road
and have the right of way. I see a car approaching the intersection
from the side street, it slows down, rolls a little too far in to the
intersection, but no dramas. When I'm about 2 meters away from the
car, it starts accelerating towards me, I brake and swerve, they hit
the front of my bike with the front of the car, I go up the bonnet and
land on the road on my hands, elbows and knees (and toes, knees and
    toes).

I was a bit in shock, the young lady was a very upset, apologetic,
said she was in a hurry, she didn't see me and the sun was in her
eyes. I didn't come out of it too bad, some grazing and a few aches
and pains. The hospital checked me out.

The real slap in the face is her father gets involved and tries to
blame the collision on me. Anyway, I've giving my statement to the
    police, now I wait...

The point is, be very careful about buying bike insurance, you're just
asking for trouble. I was going to get ambulance cover, but I don't
know now... And helmets, if I didn't go back and get my helmet, I
wouldn't have been in that collision. So it's true, helmets kill. 😉

Wait a sec, how are you sending this if you're dead?

    Ah, my old favourite.

Precisely why she should be on the road, I guess!

I got hit by a car in similar circumstances. Riding down a local street
protected by give way and stop signs, dressed in bright yellow jacket,
bright head light. I see a car approaching a stop sign on my left. Car slows
down. I start to go past. Car accelerates and broadsides me sending me
flying in a neat arc, head down into the kerb. Helmet and beanie saved me.
Still had sore shoulders for years after.Nice middle aged lady driver, a
teacher in a local school, stopped (should have been given a medal for
stopping). Very apologetic - had to take her mother to the airport, she
said..... I called police, but I think the two young cops who showed up
couldn't give a damn about the whole thing.... I didn't make a big deal, but
my wife took me to a clinic. Many X-rays later, my shoulders seem better,
maybe the aches will not come back like they have a few times over the
    years....

    Henry.

Oh yeah. Smiled, did she? Nice body? Pretty girl? Good set of [censored]?
Young ladies who don't look where they're going and are too busy to
obey the traffic laws kill people.

Take her and try to make sure she's off the road for a long time.

Do not be a nice guy about this. Demand (and be very insistent) that
she gets the book thrown at her. She must be taken off the road before
    she kills someone.

Within a couple of weeks of a young, blonde female being convicted of
killing a cyclist while texting (and being let off to encourage others
to do the same), I was almost killed by another young, blonde female
texting while driving (she ran up my backside at a school crossing and
I only survived by getting off the road pronto). I think she only
stopped when the lollipop lady yelled at her.

No, definitely didn't smile, she was in more shock than me. I think
she'll take a lot longer to recover than me.

I'd settle for advanced driver training or what ever it's called. I
don't doubt she's learnt from the collision.

My impression is she is very upset and sorry, and her father is trying
blame me. If that's the case, which I wont ever find out, I guess, the
only person I have a problem with is the father. [censored] happens, but
when [censored] happens and people don't take responsibility for it, I get
    angry.

Agree with your comments Richard, but if I had a near miss from a attractive male driver the very last thing I'd consider would be his physical attributes. Actually, like most, I'd consider him to be a total [censored].

Yes, my father insisted that both his kids do a defensive driving course
within the first month of getting our licences. That was fun. I loved
the skidpan especially, my instructor got really [censored] at me because,
as the only girl there, when he threw me in the first rear wheel slide I
only went 180 whereas all the blokes went 360, and then I nailed every
slide after that. We had a rally car driver in our group which was
funny, his method of steering was to throw the car into a rear wheel
slide. The skills I got on that course have made me a much more aware
driver. Probably not as aware as cycling on the road made me though.

Yesterday, after years of trying, I finally managed to take a photo of a
subway train that said "INSTRUCTION CAR" just so that someday I can caption
it "...but where's the DATA CDR?" when I'm ready to make a joke that's
nerdy even by the standards of jokes about LISP. -- James "Kibo" Perry

It's not quite self contained enough to be a quote in a sigfile.

One day, you will develop a LISP. And then you won't be able to say
anything other than (list list list (list (list) (list (list)))).
