You sent your advertisement to three different groups (none of which are for
advertisements) yet ignored rec.bicycles.marketplace, the obviously-correct
place for such things.

Please note that rec.bicycles.misc has a pretty decent signal-to-noise
ratio, because, for the most part, people don't post ads here. If that was
generally allowed, it would be much more difficult for people to find the
type of content they're looking for.

Hey Mike - the OP asked where to get the stuff, the outrec person gave
them an answer. I think that it's a little hypocritical of you to slap
this person down when you include your own URL with every post (which
are always thoughtful and enjoyable, incidentally). If you were
actually so pure as you want this other person to be, we wouldn't even
know you had a bike shop. Personally, I see nothing wrong with a
little self promotion if it is entirely relevant to the post.

*IF* the OP was truly replying to someone's question (highly questionable it
appears), THEN your criticism might be appropriate. It would be like me
pretending to answer some non-existent post with something promoting my
business, and posting it to a number of newsgroups; not very kosher, IMO...

That advertisement is in reply to absolutely no one and is cross posted
to other groups right out of the blue.

I for one will go out of my way to avoid 'any' spammer's product. If
the guy is so low as to spam newsgroups or if his product is so poor he
'has' to spam to try and find suckers, then I for one sure won't buy
from him.

Mort: I wouldn't have posted except that his "reply" was *not* a reply, and
in fact spam that was cross-posted to multiple newsgroups. I'd pointed that
out in my post; obviously, he wasn't "replying" to three separate posts in
three separate newsgroups.

It was, in fact, pure, unadulterated spam, with a subject designed to make
you think he was supplying useful information to somebody's question. There
was no such question.

Not to say I'd never be guilty of being hypocritical, of course! But I
seriously believe that we've got a good thing going in a couple of the
bike-related newsgroups, and I'd hate to see them overrun with spam such
that you couldn't find useful information anymore.
