  1. We are a group of 4 considering a week's trip to Scotland (or Wales) staying
in a cottage/caravan in early March to do some walking, possible 2 hill
walks and 2 or 3 low-level. We would like suggestions for a village/town to
base ourselves with a pub and some where to eat on an evening if possible,
here is a list of places already visited, Arran, Dunoon, Strathyre,
Pitlochry, Aviemore, Braemar, Glencoe, Fort William, Portree (Isle of Skye),
Lochcarron, Ullapool, Durness, Isle of Lews and Harris.

Any suggested locations will be carefully looked at.

    Thanks,

    MP

We have just returned from a xmas break at Roy Bridge about 13 miles away
from Fort William. Chalet accomodation, basic but clean and comfortable.
Pub/hotel for food and drinks about a 5 min walk away, can`t say what the
food is like though we never eat there.
Plenty of walking almost on the doorstep, as high or as low as you want.
Because the weather conditions were not good when we were there we have
booked to go back for two weeks in mid April. So fingers crossed the weather
will be better and we can do some of the walks suggested on here.

Torridon springs to mind. The peaks, being west-coast, probably won't
be snow-covered. Pub at the bottom of the glen.

You could try Mull if you want an island although this is perhaps not
the most obvious low-level walking place.

Low-level and gentler mountains perhaps try the Trossachs area or even
the area betwen Oban and Balachulish. Lots of options.

It's difficult to find somewhere I can't recommend!

How about Kinlochleven. Surrounded by hills but with great low level options
too. A decent chippie and loads of accommodation from bunkhouse to hotels.

We have stayed at Invergarry a lot. You have good roads and access
to any number of places as well as comfortable bimbles from the
    doorstep.
