  1. Sorry no conversing about running on this forum. How did you injure
    yourself.
    ___

    Thanks for asking DF.

running in central park on the road encompassing the park....and
approaching a cross walk for pedestrians...a dog leashed with owner
stood. the dog owner's attention was diverted behind them (they turned
their head to the road)...their dog though saw a squirrel or something
ahead.....and so as i was approaching them at a good 7:15 min. pace
this dog jets out across the road.....the owner is standing there and
the retractable leash extends across the runners path of the road
creating a 3' or so hurdle.

this all happend in a split second and in stride right there. choice
was either deal w/wire leash burn across mid-thigh and any
damange/fallout from creating a "bow" with the dog on one end, owner on
the other....or simply leap/jump the leash if possible.

however i had no prep time to position my stride for leaping as i was
in stride and at the "point blank" point of collision....so i
awkwardly in stride at the last minute employed a tremendous amount
more power in coming off the balls of my foot...in this emergecny to
make the hurdle. as i'm leaping in air, the dog owner turns
backaround and screams as she sees it all...and the dog is now a
hazard to cyclist, in the next lane and may be road kill. i cursed to
be quite honest in mid-air, "[censored]".....landed....stopped and rolled on
my ass getting all pressure off my legs.

i know i felt the "pull" in unplanned for total effort stretch/leap.
presto...in a second i had a pulled calf muscle. historically for
me...this is an injury that can nag and linger if you try to
continually try to run on it.

so i have chosen to take a solid week off and it feels pretty good
now.....and i am treating my 5 mile race on sunday very gingerly....and
will run it at a 7:45 pace. (i'm already registered and paid
/entered...etc...)...so I will go to it.

That's what happend Doug. I am sure you and many others have had pulls
an strains born from last second unintended exertion? I'm just
crossing my fingers on this. I have a history of injury like this in
January and February going back 4 years. Generally it's a product of
lazy winter stretching prior to a race....mediocre winter
training...and then on race day, i would go all out 100%.
unfortunately i never properly prep'ed my body for the effort i would
demand from it on race day and this always translated to a pull of some
    sort.

i'm bummed to as this upcoming week is the start of the indoor season
here in nyc. i was looking forward to kicking donovan's ass in some
sprints......to make up for all the ass kicking he routinely's been
doing to me the past couple of years.

Were you planning to do this with shoes-in-hand? I hear
    this is your secret weapon.

  3. David...your total and complete obsession with me is unbelievable. I
noticed on that other thread you continued to call me names, refer to
me as "stupid"...what's your deal pal? Donovan knows I am just F'ing
around with him & having some fun. I know Donovan in RL..and when we
see each other...we never ever talk about this ng. Email Donovan
personally if you want to get a sense of the type of person I am. ( I
am sure he's laughing his ass off with how reactive you are to me...as
    are other people).

You're scarry David and this hard-on you have for me is...astonishing.
And you're the moderator of this ng? or something like that? Is
there something I can do to comfort you and get you off my ass? I bow
down to you David. OK? Move on guy.

It's like this, Lance. You like to debate, argue, and try to belittle
others under the guise of "having fun". When it doesn't work out
for you (every time) you hide behind fake mental maladies. You
repeatedly stir the pot and then sit back with feigned shock when
the soup tastes a little different that you expected.

    Quoted message said:

That's nice - here's where you (yet again) try to bring others
into something you should be learning to deal with yourself.

I'm sure you hope that - because if it was only you laughing, it
wouldn't be enough, would it? Let me explain what having a
backbone is like, Lance. If you didn't want to be ridiculed, you
would have said "*I* am laughing at you."... who cares about
Donovan and the rest of the group. By bringing them up your
are broadcasting your fears that *you* have little importance
and you need backup in the form of respected posters to create
    some validity

    Quoted message said:

Oh oh.... here.... we... go... with.... the .....dots. Does this
coincide with twitches and escaping spittle? Sorry, no hard
on. Manic men with zero confidence and little intelligence
    don't turn my crank.

    Quoted message said:

And you're the moderator of this ng?

Rec.running is an unmoderated group. I post a training week
thread weekly and a training year thread monthly. Ozzie posts
the FAQ. None of that involves moderation.

    Quoted message said:

    I bow
down to you David. OK? Move on guy.

I will ,until the next time you clumsily try to insult me. Then I
will respond, as always. You have the choice here, Lance.

    grace and stay whole.

Sounds like an uphill battle. You need to get better seat on the
    redliner bus.

As for your race, do a nice slow warmup and if the leg is still not
feeling right run 9's. Stay at the back and look at all the butts. I
leave the gender to watch up to you.

In one post you are desparately asking me to leave you alone.
"I'm on my knees", you said. An hour later you are stirring the
    pot again.

There's no stalking - I'm always responding to you, not the other

So, what's it going to be, Lance?

    __

sounds like an admission of guilt. 1)you're responding to me across
different threads with personal attack intent. 2)you devote enormous
amounts of content and text to me, not a topic on r.r. why? no one
else does. they may feel the way you do about me...but i'm not worth
their time and engergy...but not you. 3) you direct language at me
calling me "stupid", continuously and repeatedly, over and over again.

these are facts david that equate to, and illustrate....a stalker. i
might kid you or anyone...but you devote way way way entirely too much
attention to me. and then what's worse is you try to justify your
behavior. david...look at the total amount of text and content
you've focused on me in the last 24 hours. Me, personally. How many
times have you characterized my IQ in some way.

Your footpritns illustrate you're a little obsessed on me, personally.
Look at the bandwidth you've devoted to me...take a break....and go
for a run...think about it pal. goodluck

    Up-bring-ing,
That gets us out of hand. Our mothers all are junkies, Our fathers all

    Golly Moses, natcherly we'r punks!

ok, serious Q on topic. can you run on prozac or all the other
medications? i would imagine 10% of the population minimum of any
given weekend race must be on something...no? hell, i live in
nyc...must be 33% or so LOL!

anyone know of any elites that were known to medicate? i'm not making
a judgement on it at all....hey, if it makes you happy...it can't be
that baaaaaaad (as cheryl crow might say).

i know days before a fight they would take mike tyson off his
meds....to enrage himself. i suppose though running is different...and
you maintain your meds. i would imagine prozac and the like are not
on any banned list....as that would be illegal...no? has runner's
world ever touched on tihs aspect of running? running a marathon his
such an enormous impact on your whole chemical balance and
physiology....i wonder how it impacts a person who does take prozac for
    example...

No there is no maintainer and the Oz never claims that either. Some
