I'm cycling Vinh (Vietnam) via Laos (highway 8)to Vientiane (highway

I'd be interested to hear from someone who's cycled that stretch of
road.
Road condition?
Any hotels-guest houses in Bang Nape, Lak Sao, Khamkeut, Ban Bakha,
Ban Phonko (highway 8)?
How much trucks/traffic?
Any noodle shops-drink stops along the way?
How are the locals?
How are the border guards on the Laos side?
