Fitting a front derailleur

I think Shimano supply them with some front derailleurs (I know they do with
Deore).

Front mechs are not expensive, why not get the correct one ? and flog
yours on eBay ?

You should be able to order the correct spacers from your LBS. I recently
did a similar thing, moving my front mech from an aluminium "large" frame to
a steel "small" frameon my touring bike.

You can make shims by cutting them from a beer/coke/soda can. Cheap and
effective.
