  1. Anyone know if its possible to fit a 31.8 diameter front mech to an
    old Dawes Galaxy with smaller diameter steel tubing (think its 28.6) -
    does anywhere sell collars to fit around tubing ?? Cheers.

    I think Shimano supply them with some front derailleurs (I know they do with
    Deore).

    Front mechs are not expensive, why not get the correct one ? and flog
    yours on eBay ?

  4. You should be able to order the correct spacers from your LBS. I recently
    did a similar thing, moving my front mech from an aluminium "large" frame to
    a steel "small" frameon my touring bike.

    You can make shims by cutting them from a beer/coke/soda can. Cheap and
    effective.

    Ah yes, but make sure you use an aluminium can.
