Hutchinson Carbon Comp Golds, because they ride great and only cost $24 each at Supergo....usual price = $56 (I think)...great tires, although a rear usualy only lasts around 600 miles

I generally use Continental Ultra 2000 tires for general riding. I have also used Continental Ultra Gatorskins for the extra puncture resistance but prefer a lighter tire for training & racing.

At the present I'm trying out a new pair of Hutchinson Reflex Kevlar tires and like them so far. I will probably use these for racing.

For Training and racing I use Bontrager Race Lites, they are light and slightly expensive $40 each, but I love them.

Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX on one bike (lovely)

Michelin Pro Race 2 on another (but only done about 100 miles on them so far so can't really comment yet)

Conti GP3k on another (just fine)

Winter see me on the Vittoria Open Pave CG (its green and rides beautifully)

MTB has Conti Vapor Protection on front and Conti Vertical Protection rear (mighty fine)

My riding is purely for myself. Well, we have four guys who cycle together, and there is a bit of competition to see who gets there first.

Clinchers:

A trusty pair of Michelin Axxials that I've had for two years. A bit heavy, but tough. Never had a puncture. Showing quite a bit of wear in the center, but still quite rideable.

Vittoria Open Corsa CX's - light, but a bit fragile. Lost one to a sidewall cut. Not cheap.

Tubies:

Conti Sprinters. One of the classic tubulars. Rode them all last year, one developed a slow leak recently.

Andre Dugast cotton. Just got these. EXPENSIVE ($94 each!) but really not that much more than high end Veloflex, Vittoria, or Contis. Beautiful to look at - compared to yellowish kevlar sidewalls, the white cotton really stands out. Can't speak for durability, only been on three rides, but the ride itself is soooo smooth.

Why? Very low flat occurance, low rolling resist. (ie: fast), great grip and handling. Not too expensive.

2. For what (racing, training, recreation)? All conditions, all the time.

3. What tyres do hate? Any of those that are over-hyped, over-marketed, over-priced.

I have a dual susp MTB (VT3) and run Continental GatorSkins 700Cx28C on it... I am finding that i am wearing them out really quick and cut up bad on my commute which include some rocky/gravelly driveways...

I am a newbie when it comes to road tyres

On the other hand, I love my MTB tyres... i run a Maxxis BlingBling 26x2.35 on the front and WTB mutanoraptor 26x2.25 on the back.... on the street I run 26x2.5 Hookworms and Oriflamme on the back 26x2.0 (both maxxis)

The tyres I despise were the original Airlight Hutchinson Scorpions that came with my VT... they were very very [censored]!

should I go wider on my commute rims?

Well, my roomie has been using 28c Vredestein Perfect Max commute tires on her flat-bar roadie on my recommendation, and she loves them. They have puncture protection, are built for longer wear, some tread for dirt roads, and they're not boat anchors compared to some of their competitor's.

They're a tad narrower than some 28's, so if you like them wider try the 32c. I think they also come in 37c and 40c.

1) What I use:
For my mtb an aggressive semi slicks that I get from Canadian Tire. Really good tread life and the heavy steal is hard to puncture. For my commuter I also use a semi slick, but it is a lot less aggressive, also a Canadian Tire special. For my road bike I use Specialized ... I had the Armadillos on it they are really good, but now I have some Kevlar based do-hicky also of the Specialized make.

2) The way I use tires is I get a set and then use them till I need new ones. On my mtb I train and do some xc races, on my commuter I use it to commute, on my road bike I train and race. Each will have the same tires until they need new ones.

3) I really hate old cracked tires that I can not use.

as the folding gatorskin is 220 gms or so how can it be too heavy ?

don´t much like michelin tyres - they´re quality control seems a bit lacking , they can make them but they can´t make them all the same .
