a Harry Potter chess set for one daughter
a "groovy" swim suit for the other daughter

and let the inlaws come to visit............now that's giving!

Hope the solstice fairy was good to all. She has given all of us longer and
longer days for more riding!

I gave 2.5 hours of my time, and a bunch of white blood cells /
platelettes for folks whose immune system waere compromised because
they were undergoing chemotherapy. Probably saved a life or two today.

To each of my two son-in-laws, and to my grandson who works in his dad's garage:
a set of Peltor Tactical hearing protectors.

Peltor's claim to fame is that, besides being comfortable enough to wear for six
hours at a stretch, they allow the user to hear normal conversation though an
amplifier/microphones built into the headset.

Beeeeg improvement over regular earmuffs - if you're running a machine that has
something coming loose, you can hear the jingle before it comes apart. If
somebody comes up behind you and says "Yo...", you hear them....

Gave the kids everything on their list, including a rubber chicken.
Don't ask, cause it wasn't easy finding it.

Yesterday I donated two 44 pound bags of Iams to the local "no kill"
shelter as I do every year.

For some odd reason my 10 year old asked for a rubber chicken on his
birthday...are we missing something?

I gave:

A bike helmet for neighbor girl
A tune-up for the neighbor kids bikes (air, tightening of loose parts,
oiling of dry creaky parts, etc)
2-3 toys each for a co-worker's relative's kids who lost their sister (7
years old) to brain cancer on the last week. The parents didn't have time
to think about Christmas so I tried my best to help out.
A derailleur for my son's 21 speed, bearings for his skateboard, among
others.
The other boy received one of those leapfrog learning books and other "cool"
things
The other gifts for my kids seem like minutia at this point. I've just
restarted employment so this stretched me thin at this point!

ski patrolling goodies for my boys.. the new-this-year patroller got new
patagonia pants, ski socks and a pack for first aid, the other one got a
pack too. We made older boy's day with a mini fridge for his room.

I made lots of goodies to eat this year, and lots of goodies in my sewing
room too. Mr Adventure gets a custom dryskin ski vest.

A Veritas Carvers Vise to the wife (and a pair of earrings so she had something
"girlie" as well)
All kids and their spouses got gift certs to places they like
My mother got a collection of small things that she misses from England, kind
of a giant stocking.
The boss got a half-model of his boat, cut on his CNC router while he wasn't
looking too hard. ;-)

Uncles, kids' in-laws, etc, got something lesser but to their tastes.
And the whole world got a happier me, cos I was feeling poorly Xmas eve, but
improved mightily on the day!

I gave my girlfriend, and her daughter (who just moved into a new place)
shopping cards. They may seem somewhat impersonal (but practical). They were
'very' happy to get them, and the next day bought tons of things they needed
to make the new place a home.

I saved -- for months -- and gave my fiancee' her dining room furniture
she's been longing for. We've been in a new home for two years now with
that blank spot (the empty room didn't bother me at all, but...) ...She was
pretty happy.

Also, my 71 year old mother is travelling abroad for the first time ever
this spring. I gave her a completely useless gift certificate for $200
bucks to a Coach store -- this spring, she'll be on the Danube, on some kind
of touring cruise with some kind of trendy purse (bag--whatever). She was
pretty happy.

And, as usual, I covered all of my bro's and sis's families with the
reciprocal gift card.

Nice holiday for the goodoz clan....

Mp3 player/voice recorder, chocolates, the new Jamie Oliver cookbook and
socks for the Mrs. For the boy: a toy with beads you slide around on
wires and the biggest hit of all, a toy vacuum cleaner. He's been
pushing it around for two days now! I think we should have gotten a real
one...

hehehe, how I remember the toy dirt devil...my boy pushed around for
days at a time...but it wasn't enough for my brute. No, he had to push
dads 30# Kirby!! He was pushing that thing all over the house before 3
years of age!!

He's 8 now, and I can hardly get him to touch it! Hell I even got a
lighter (much) Orek....still no dice.

Dave (enjoy, cuz' the ol cliche' is very very true....they grow up way
too fast!)
