My sympathies to people that don't have seasons 😉

Palmer has seasons, Fairbanks and further north has two times of year
and not what I call seasons. Minus 40 and below is not a season but
indoor survival and the reason indoor equipment was designed. Well cold
    and guys like Lance. 😉

Something about Denver that stunts your growth?

See, that's the problem with getting too steamy 😉 If you paid
attention to science, you, too, could learn to enjoy running in those
temperatures 😉 I think most of their winter races are snowshoe.

Actually Palmer and Fairbanks both have 2 seasons, sorta, but Fbks is
about 20 deg colder in winter and 20 deg warmer in summer (-40 to +90 vs
-20 to +70). I think we each have about 1-2 wks transition between them,
    at most.

    slippage... 😉

In some other thread DF boasted to have run at negative
15 with no face mask. -40 shouldn't bother him. Besides,
once you're at about 40 below anything colder doesn't make
    all that much difference...

Oh come on, 2 weeks of spring, 2 weeks of summer, and 2
weeks of fall are plenty for anyone. Spring and fall on
the tundra are my favorite seasons. They are both well
defined. You can tell because less snow falls 🙂

We have seasons, but we tend to have at least two every week.

Snow and ice for a week after Thanksgiving... the forecast
tomorrow is sunny and close to 60. I can't wait - shorts, no
overshirt, no gloves.... (The trails have been dry for days.)

And best of all the cattle have stopped giving me their satanic
bovine stares as I run by.

    Not nearly traumatic as shrinkage.

If I lived there I would agree. My memories of Fairbanks and Delta
Junction and -40 to -70 degrees did not leave me as a young boy thrilled
with cold temps. When I had to go out to work I was dressed in a hooded
parker, parker pants, bunny boots etc and all I wanted to do was get to
the truck. Some of my experiences with snowshoes were fun yet scary and
very hard work. I sometimes wonder if this isn't a subconscious reason I
shy away from snowshoes. Hmmm, dear Dr Freud....

To keep myself from turning into a Lance, I recall those really cold
temps and get out the door. I know after a 1/4 mile I'll be comfortable.

I remember going out in -71 ... It was expletive COLD! 🙂 We had 6 50'
towers and one 300' tower loaded with weather equipment and you know the
instruments that needed replacement were always near the top. In the
summer it was beautiful if we exclude the mosquitoes. I have some good
and not so good memories and why returned to the lower 48.

I don't think you want to bet your bacon on that concept. Once those
temps plummet you don't want to be 3 miles from home to find the wind
kicked up and the wind-chill factor reveals the flaw in your clothes. 😉

The colder it gets the less difference there is from
one degree minus to the next. At -60 vs. -40 your car
battery might differentiate. Your skin will freeze
    regardless just as quick.

If you can tell the diff between -40F and -60F you're
more sensitive than an Adirondack lake to acid rain 🙂
