  1. Every year before this one, I've hung up the bike at Thanksgiving, and dug
out the skis. Something's wacky in our weather... can you say "global
warming"? We had some snow and cold but the snow line is up to 8000' and
that's not good for a family of ski patrollers....And there is no way I'm
taking my B2's out until there's coverage...

So, I just had to ride today. I've been missing my weekday play hooky rides
just being swamped this time of year with work. ( we won't talk about
spinning at the gym) It's been warmer, and so foggy that the airports from
Boise to Spokane are shut down. I committed my self this morning, thinking
that the park will be kind of cool in deep thick fog. I headed out midday,
and the fog lifted into a low overcast. It's grey, and damp out.

It's been a **month** since I've been out of the trail. There's a odd
quality to the moment... it feels more like early spring than the week
before xmas. There's a lot a green to go along with the grey. I have some
moments of puzzlement just trying figure out which way to go....the bike
leads me towards the trial that parallels the river. It's damp, and a little
tacky but it feels soooo goood. I feel strong. I see lots of tire tracks,
but for now I have the trail to myself. The river is high... mid winter high
water is flowing fast and churning through the rapids. Down by the toenail
rapid, there's a long rocky section, and today I just had it in my head to
clean it. I usually do about 3/4 of it walk the last little bit and get
back on after the broken rocks. The last part of the grade isn't steep but
it's big nasty chunks of fractured basalt. Last time I was out here
Tuffgrrl cleaned it, so naturally I have to do it now. Woo-eee... one little
dab and I'm through the whole thing. I stop to share the moment with myself,
breath in some ozone from the rapids, and take a picture.

Then onwards... but my attention is now caught by not one but two bald
eagles ( a nesting pair?) circling right above the river next to me. One has
a big fish in it's talons. They are flying together, and I have to stop and
watch as one looks like it's ready to go fishing. What a great distraction.

the rest of the ride is just pedaling along...threading through puddles on
the old jeep roads, picking up the peices of singletrack that act as
connectors. There are so many choices!! But slowly I wend my way back in a
nice long loop that satisfies the soul

On the way home, I stop at a girlfriend's house to pick up a cookie recipe.
She's gone but I start yakking with her hubby, who is saving up for his
first mtb. He's been going out with some buddies on a borrowed steed. He
had no idea I am a mountain biker, and asked to see the Svelte Hawaiian. We
get out there, and I just about have a heart attack. It can't be. No, not
    gone..... it's Wonder Nipples!
She's gone! Somehow I've lost Wonder Nipples! How could a zip tie possible
undo it's self? The thing is, she could be anywhere... I don't know for a
fact that I lost her today, I just noticed today. Maybe she was stolen. Oh
well.... someone will find her somewhere, and she can be their mojo....
    she's been great for me.

I was with you up to here. As a matter of fact, I had all my cold wx gear
laid out this morning for a ride, but couldn't get motivated to get out of
bed. That last line about the "long loop that satifies the soul" inspires
me. I *will* go ride in the AM tomorrow.

Nah. Did another xmas ride tonight (this time with a few miles of ST)
and when we were done we went back to one of the girl's house. She made
meatball sandwiches and everyone else brought something. I made
homemade Salsa (very, very, hot salsa with a nasty afterburn).

She gave us the meatball recipe (no obscene humor please).

The ziptie probably cracked... (says Rog, heading for a new ziptie so

You've never stopped to do an errand on the way home from a ride? I was
picking up a recipe for edible gingerbread... the soft yummy kind, not the
    kind you build with.

Yeah, but it's usually manly stuff like gasoline, concrete, and ammunition.
I'm not knockin' ya, I just got a chuckle from the concept of baking and
biking all in the same breadth. I'm ever appreciative of those of our
species who do, in fact, bake for the holidays.

So far I've made cinnamon crisps and toffee bars, not sure what I'll make
today. Edible gingerbread? Butter spritz? Pecan bars? Russian tea cakes?
Sugar cookies? Snickerdoodles? All of the above? I'll take plates of cookies
out this week to all my shops... favorite LBS' and the shops where I pickup
and deliver repairs. I may leave some around the house for my kids, we'll
    see.

Way OT, but one of the neatest gifts I ever got was from my hubby's aunt, a
wonderful lady. I got a giant carton, and in it were 2 air bake cookie
sheets, the "ultimate cookie collection" cook book, a cooling rack, little
dough scooper-portioner thingy; a set of cooker cutters, spritz contraption
and I forget what all else. A cookie kit. Air bake cookie sheets are a
    necessity, if you ask me.

It's not OT I guess... one of the reasons to ride is to eat as many cookies
    as you want.

  10. Nice RR Penny. Your website is very nice too. Do you make anything for a
5'11" 200 guy... like a cold weather body suit I could use over my armour?
    TIA.

I'm envisioning stretch fleece and I don't think that would look so good.

lol. Here's a quote from a ride report I just posted at
    http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=67391
The RR is for Boise locals, so sorry if I leave out some details, anyway...

"At the MXC lot, I ate a Little Debbie Holiday cake. At 4800', a Little
Debbie Nutty bar. At 5600', another Holiday cake. At the top of 4, I
broke into my emergency rations and had a Little Debbie Oatmeal Pie. All
the hearty-healthy trans fats in Little Debbie snacks keep 'em yummy and
chewy even when frozen. Bless Debbie's heart. Back home, a JubelAle with
a couple bowls of Jambalaya, and fresh corn bread. I love winter riding
-- it's all about the food."

time try some Gorilla Glue. a little goes along way. And let it dry a
full 24 hours. I've got a green fog on my stem which super glue and
other glues failed to hold till I met the gorilla.

Gorilla Glue works on "fog". Amazing! ;^)

Green fog is usually chlorine gas which probably had a bad reaction to the
    cyanoacrylate that is "Super Glue".
