As has been pointed out before, both politely and not so politely, the
perceived "problem" you want us to solve (weight gain due to running) is not
the problem, your obsession with the scales is. Since we are not members of
the American Psychiatric Association, we don't know whether or not you really
have an eating disorder. However, you demonstrate a similar mindset (in
particular, the focus on the scales/weight as an end in itself and not a means
to an end). This is not unusual (especially for someone who's just lost
weight), hopefully it will become less of an issue with time.
In the interim, I'd advise you to be aware of the problem, and make a
*conscious* effort to avoid obsessing about numbers on the scales and adopt a
healthy lifestyle.
Cheers,

_______________Exacty?....is this rec.running or alt.oprah?
It's rec.running, Lance.
Care to guess what the "rec" stands for? Here's a hint: it's not
"Really Elite Competitors". This means that anyone who takes
up the sport and wants to talk about any aspect of it is very
much on topic here. Weight loss is a very common reason why
people begin running.
To make sophmoric comments about "rec.oprah" when a poster
is talking about weight loss and life improvements via running is
in poor taste. You were doing better when you were talking
about flat marathons having unfair advantages.
cheers,

I also think for very serious running comptetitors who pursue faster times,
weigyt and or wieght loss is also a common consideration. In fact I almost
see weight and weight loss an an intregal part of almost everyone's running
program. Be it competitive or recreational.

.... and to take it even further, sometimes it's the other way around.
I often have problems remaining *above* my 'danger zone' in weight
(about 130lbs) when training heavily. Experience tells me that when
I dip below this weight my training suffers or I get sick.
Still - even knowing this, it's hard for me to keep weight on when
running even just 50+ miles a week. At 70+ miles I feel like I am
always preparing or eating food. It's got to be a serious issue for
many, if not most elites, and people trying to be.
cheers,
