Vernon is out in the garage this morning, tinkering with bikes. He always gives Nathan's tourer a once-over on the weekend, as it's the bike Nathan's been using all week to go to college. Whilst I'm checking my emails, there's a tap at the window. It's Vernon motioning for me to come to the front door. So I do and he's stood there with Nathan's bike. "Turn that front wheel." he said. So I *tried*. It wouldn't budge. The space between mudguard & wheel was *solid* with mud and the brakes were encased in mud. Just goes to show the state of the lanes in Norfolk in the winter. Looking at the bike you'd think he'd been doing cyclocross! Mind you, it's a darned good bit of resistance training. That'll build up his muscles ;-)

Its your own fault. Most bikes the tyres pick up the mud, the wheel rotates and it falls off again. On Nathans, the wheel picks up the mud, the wheel rotates the mud into the megawatt beams of his front and rear light arrays and bakes it hard onto the tyres which then rotatest to pick up more mud.....

Yup, but I rest secure in the knowledge that all this resistance training he's getting is a darned sight cheaper than gym fees. He'll thank me when he's Mr Universe and then making megabucks in Hollywood ;-)

I fitted 28mm Conti Gator Skins onto my tourer half way through my Scottish tour in August. I like them, had one puncture in the front wheel but it doesn't really count as it happened when I skidded on some crunchy snow and crashed. No punctures when used on city streets and unclassified roads free from snow, but muddy and gritty and slurry-y. They roll pretty well and fell grippy and not too spongy. I am considering them again for my summer commuter.

But he'll be Mr Universe from the waist down and Mr Wimp from the waist up unless you get him into the gym for some upper body training as well ;-)

I don't think they last as long as panaracer paselas, but I can get them locally so that's what I'm using at the moment. I actually had a puncture on the back wheel as well the other day - a thorn. That's the first proper puncture I've had on my single bike for an awful long time.
So, if I could get them easily I'd get paselas, but the contis will do for now.

I commute on 28mm Ultra GatorSkins. A nice fast ride, and they seem fairly puncture-resistant. I weigh 156lb, and run them at 100psi front, 120psi rear.
They feel a little less supple than my previous tyres, Panaracer Paselas, but don't have the annoying central ridge to wear down before you can corner predictably.

My Trek has 25mm GatorSkins. 1800 puncture free miles so far. They're nicer than the previous tyre (Conti Sport 1000) but what wouldn't be?
