Went out today looking not to spend too much money on a bike. went with a mate who is a keen mountain biker. i was happy with a £149 bike from a sports shop, but he said that they are usually of [censored] build and i would be better spending a bit more money. he took me to a specialised bike shop and i was able to try various bike from £200 right up to £900. i plumped eventually for a Kona Fire Mountain which i got at a good price £375, reduced from £450. a bit more than i wanted to spend but now i think i have a good starter bike. the guys in the bike shop were great, did the PDI and set everything up for me. they told me to bring the bike back after a few weeks when the cables had streched and they would adjust them again.
just want a bit of reassurance that i will get my moneys worth out of the bike and that i havent been stroked. Comments?
Your friend gave you good advice. Nothing stops a person riding a bike more than having to ride a heavy POS. I remember my first mountain bike I got for Christmas in 1985, it was a Peugeot. It was awesome. Rode up and down the mountain in the snow that night. Great times. Enjoy!!!
PS Make sure to get some bike shorts because your arsch bones will hurt the first week or so, and the padding helps alleviate the pain. 🙂

Be thinking of your friend when you do your Christmas shopping, as he has done you a favor. There aren't many mistakes worse than buying a cheapo bike from a stupid department store that has no place selling bikes. Kona is a good bike, you should be happy with it.
The only people who will truly know are those at the bottom of the hill as you descend. They will see your big cheesy grin 😄 (that is if you can do one).

The more you ride, the more you will appreciate spending the extra money, and this will strenghten your reassurance.

You can't go wrong spending a little more on a good bike. The resale value stays high. And you are less likely to find something else to do with your free time. Keep Riding
