He he, thought this was usenet spam didn't you?
The bits and bobs on the old Viscount got wore out over the course of the
season, so I decided to convert to a single, as it's cheap, quick and
elegant.
I did the spacers + bmx cog + lockring on the back, got some short
chainring bolts so I could remove the 52, and threw on a KMC heavy duty
nickel chain because I think they look fat and shiny. :P
While everything was off, I went ahead and did a simple respray as well. A
rattlecan job, but it looks quite fetching.
After two weeks I can't be happier! It's the best thing I've done in ages.
😄 Riding is simple and elegant, you're in the gear you're in, so deal.
LOL. I just have to avoid a couple hills around here, that are impossible
with a 42x16, but on the rest, I'm forced to stand and get a really nice
cardio workout. 😄 On the flats I can't go too fast, so I don't get too
cold from the wind and can practice spinning vs. obsessing how high of a
gear to push. :P
Highly recommended if you've got an old racer gathering dust, especially
if it has a screw on freewheel, just replace with a bmx freewheel, though
your chainline will probably be more accurate if you move the axle and
redish the wheel...
Happy happy. 😄
