Permanent Olympics Site?

Well dumb is a little strong. 😉 The host site can make a bunch of
money or at least build a site that will last forever. If it's a
permanent site does all the money go to the host site? Now that's the
way for a single place to make a boatload of money. If some could figure
out the profit and divide it to everyones satisfaction then maybe.

You can't divide up the effect of an Olympics on the host city's local
economy, which is another reason why a single site is not going to be
welcomed with open arms.

(It reminds me of the idea to get all of the hotels in the area to
agree not to raise their prices for the Olympics - I think somebody in
Los Angeles seriously suggested this in 1983.)

i'll even take it a few more degrees to be within reason & a legit idea. The
UN has a permanent site in NYC, the world court has a permanent site in The
Hague. It's not a totally foreign (pardon the pun) notion to have global
forums w/fixed locations.

i think it might just make a lot of sense to have for example 20 year
leases/sites (5 olympic games) at a fixed site. then rotate the games (winter
or summer) to another hemisphere.

this would better justify the cost on the poor taxpayer who really pays for
this [censored]. instead of a 3 week revenue generating stream and hope/pray you've
made your mark and capture revenue going forward.....(tourism)....you could
assert a 20 year revenue stream guaranteed....plus i could see lots of
countries sending their athletes to that site to train annually.

And of course...there would be only one learning curve to ascend on the
security side and then have it maintained/preserved. There are small regions
w/locked down security...for example Singapore. Hong Kong is pretty tight too.
I'm picturing a singular site to be like that...a city state...island....or
village in the mountains..etc. A place managable geographically to "lock
down"...

It's not a crazy idea...

Not crazy at all. In fact, what if the Olympics had always been held in
Greece, and then someone on the Internet came up with the idea to rotate
the location, requiring billions of dollars of expenditures, untold
headaches, and corruption in the bidding process to boot? Now that's
crazy! Or so it would seem if the situation were reversed.

Imagine if the permanent host wasn't a "host city" or some already-known
place, but instead some special place created explicitly for the Olympics.
Imagine an island somewhere over which no nation had sovereignty.
Essentially an independent city-state named Olympia (similar to the Vatican
city-state). This island is covered with well-designed, no compromise,
permanent venues where the world's athletes gather every four years to
compete (and probably gather in between Olympics to train).

A idealistic dream? Hell yes. But this is essentially the setup that
brought us ancient Athens Greece in the first place.

(Of course, I'm dreaming, but I'm an architect - I get paid for this stuff -
give me some slack)

May not be a great idea, or be accepted by many but I agree wrt corruption,
