  1. Hi, My name is Betty and I am just starting out. I have been low cabing for
about 4 weeks and have lost about 13 lbs. I am pleased with my weight loss,
although, I would like it to move along a bit quicker.

I am constantly combing the web for good recipies, can anyone suggest a good
    book?

Also, I have not counted carbs the last two days.... but I am still in
keotosis.... so, I am doing something right.

Well, just wanted to introduce myself.. 🙂

    Betty

Any low carb recipe book by Dana Carpender is good. I also suggest you
read The Atkins Essentials since you are just starting out.

  3. You can't beat Dana Carpender's books, she has several out now. You can see
them and subscribe to her newsletter at http://www.holdthetoast.com/.

Hi, Betty, I will introduce myself. I'm Jim. 🙂

Please don't think of the low-carb lifestyle as a diet for losing weight.
It's better to think of it as a way of eating that allows you to control
your body. With the information you gain you will have more control of your
weight. You can lose or gain, and it will be up to you.

Welcome to the group. You'll find a lot of kind and knowledgeable people
here. Most here have taught me a lot, and I know they will teach you as
    well.

As counterintuitive as this may sound, you don't really want to lose too
much too fast. After all, fat has structure and blood vessels supplying it.
Those have to be dismantled by your body and reabsorbed. A weight loss of 2
pounds a week is excellent. Just be patient and it will come off.

Well done! The rate of weight loss varies quite a bit among different
people -- 13 lbs in a month is GREAT, even if most of it IS water. It
took ME almost TWO months to lose that much! (I'm quite sedentary.)
The important thing is to stick with it and it WILL pay off!

It's a good idea to keep on top of it just to keep yourself honest. I
use an Excel spreadsheet, but http://www.fitday.com is convenient and
free and does not spam you.

What Pat said is right, and it seems to depend on how overweight you are.
The closer you are to your "right" weight, the slower you will lose. And
losing slower is a good thing, actually.

It took me twenty years to put on the excess weight, and I've lost most of
it in less than a year. No hurry, here.

Any low carb recipe book by Dana Carpender is good. I also suggest you
read The Atkins Essentials since you are just starting out.

The Essentials book was published by the sold-off food products
division (and seemed to suddenly appear on the shelves after his
death, along with "Atkins Approved" seals on products), and alters
the Induction rules to include lots of their junk. Better to pick
up a used copy of "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution".
