  1. Kirklees Council in West Yorkshire are considering developing a new
    route with Sustrans.

The route, an alternative to a main road, has attracted opposition
    from some local residents.

They in turn have attracted support on their petition from peopple
    living over 30 miles away.

Could I ask anyone who supports the iea of better facilities for
cyclists to email the officer dealing with teh project and register
your support for the Fenay Greenway project.

interesting, but I'd like a little more detail before I lend my support to
something. As you may have noticed, Sustrans is not universally supported.
What's wrong with making the main road safe?

Please remember there ARE many cyclists who prefer to ride on greenways
and will not ride on roads no matter how 'safe' you or I perceive them
to be. The Spen Valley Greenway (SVG)which is part of NCN66 and is also
in Kirklees is very well used by family groups including very young
children with stablisers on their bikes and smaller children on trikes
who are certainly not skilled enough to be using roads.

The Fenway Greenway will be another converted railway so hopefully built
to the same standard as the SVG and encourage even more people to become
cyclists, then they might drive in a more considerate fashion during the
week and thus contribute to making the roads safer for ALL of us.
