  1. The combination of being laid up at the start of the year and the foul
weather we had in the summer has made feel that I somehow "missed"
2004. Therefore, I want to do some catching up in 2005. The bike
    related objectives are:

    1. A 200km Audax.

-Maybe a tad ambitious but a worthy primary goal and, with a bit of
luck, very achievable. The only problem for me is that the nearest
Audax ride start point is about 15 or 20 miles away so I always end up
doing 40 miles on top of the base distance.

    2. IoW round the Island.

-Possible that my wife and I will do this one on solos rather than the
tandem. Vetoed in the past on the basis that I leave her behind.
Viable now as I'm so hideously unfit. Also necessary as you need two
strong arms to pilot a tandem down the IoW hills.

    3. Five Ferries route.

-No idea how far it is but I've always fancied it. Takes in Pompey,
Soton, IoW and New Forest; all linked by ferries.

    4. Go on a Critical Mass

-I've always said that CM stinks and that criticality only counts if
it happens every morning and evening. But then, I've never actually
seen a CM ride. At some point this year I'll do it - if it is all too
dreadful I can always bail out to a pub.

    5. An off road night ride.

-Meon Valley, Titchfield to Alton on the old railway line perhaps. Or
some of the South Downs Way, possibly. I've been inspired by the
    latest Cycle.

    6. Some family rides.

-The local council have very considerately opened an off road route
that runs past my house, through fields along the coast and to the
sea. About 5 miles. Should make a good ride which won't give me a
coronary watching cars give my 6 year old daughter 2 inches clearance
    at 60 mph.

    My ambition too..

I was 8km short on my longest ride this year (192km) so am looking to better
    it next year.

Would she pilot the tandem? Could you cope with her piloting the tandem?

    Sounds good..

You'll get thrown out of the tory party ;-)

Do it, it is great fun. This time of the year most of my riding is in
darkness. Dark and fog (OK, low cloud) is also great. On quiet roads where
the only sounds nearby are the fluttering of birds in the trees, the panting
of your breath, pounding of the heart, the swish of rubber on tarmac, and
    ominous creaks from the back wheel ;~{

Know what you mean.. My daughter is 7 (8 in Jan) and hasn't much traffic
sense yet. It is a nerve wracking experience riding with her on the road.
    Worthwhile though.

The local council conveniently painted a new cycle lane and ASL outside my
    house.

    Best wishes for 2005

Thats only 6 I look forward to the other 1999. I was disappointed when
C+ had on their front cover 2005 Bikes Reviewed only to find about 9
    reviews inside.

Good luck and let us know as you achieve each one.

    I'll get my coat.
