Well it depends what type of mountain biking you do. If you were doing pure cross country, I suggest that you get the Rockhopper, since it's meant for cross country. The Hardrock(which is what I have) is actually designed for all terrain so you can do cross country, urban, and lite freeriding in one bike, but it lacks performance for each 'genre' of mountain biking. It's more of a 'jack of all trades' bike.

I have a stumpjumper an older model, but just the most awesome bike, can your budget stretch up to the stumpjumper ?? I have a hardtail I use for purely cross country and more uphills when I ride.... just an awesome frame and bike, I have ridden with people that have Rockhoppers and they reckon they are great bikes, but agree with the above post, what type of riding do you do ??

If its mainly cross country go the rockhopper if you are more into downhill, get some totally different again.

go the hardrock, i have been riding a 2003 Pro disc model and have not had a single problem with it. It is a Jack of all trades bike and can handle xc with ease and even some light downhilling and freeriding with no damage.

lol well i dunno about where you are but around here all the giants are so much cheaper than the specialized and the specialized frams are made by giant anyway.. just something to think about

then again im biast, our shop mainly sells giant and i bought one and about to buy another one lol 😄
