s'funny because I don't usually read slogans on clothing ( other than my
teenage daughter's...), they're usually either meaningless, or embarrassing.
We'd actually started chatting, and that part of my brain which was noticing
other stuff (like the Red Kite in the distance behind Bill...) announced (
in quick succession) "He's got a uk.rec.walking cap", and "he looks like the
pics you've seen of Bill Grey on Paul Saunders' website". I think that
without the cap I wouldn't have made the connection. Nice to get a chance to
have a chat in real life.
The dog and I had a great walk, windy and cold enough that I didn't need to
unzip any part of my Buffalo for ventilation, and I needed to put on gloves
going uphill to the ridge. The cloud base had lifted above the peaks and the
views were stunning, not just of the local hills like Pen-y-Fan but past
that to the Black Mountains. In a southerly direction, Devon was clearly
visible, not just the usual Morte point near Ilfracombe, but Hartland point
further to the south west. Lundy Island stood out, as did Caldey Island at
Tenby. A rough calculation using a piece of string on a road atlas suggests
visibility was something like 70 miles or so. To the north I think I was
seeing Pumlumon and a big wind farm on the horizon could be picked out
through the binoculars. A Red Kite flyover at lunch stop, and a pair of
peregrines topped the day.
I'm hoping that the weather will hold till the end of the week so I can get
a chance to spend a few days wild camping up there. Woud it be too much to
ask from some clear skies as well for star gazing?.
Cheers
Andrew
ps. Can you actually park the car at Llyn Fan Fach?
