Pump question

: My Performance floor pump no longer can hold onto the tube stem after

Shouldn't you be asking Performance these questions?

My Specialized neither, but only on valves that are smooth.

I use some string to tie the head to the rim/tyre whilst pumping, cheaper
than a new pump.

Replace the rubber 'gripper'. Take it with you to an LBS. Chances are they
might have one, and if not can get it for you.

This question gets a lot easier to answer if you have a local
Performance store. They have a "no questions asked" replacement policy
on their products. I'm on my fourth or fifth Performance Hurricane
pump. Easy for me since the localist of my LBSes is a Performance
store. :-)

One option, replace the pump head with one from Silca. Silca heads, at
least the presta ones, are great and most shops have the replaceable
rubber washer for like $1. Here's an example of one:

Hi, another nice replacement head w/hose is the Topeak Smarthead. I
put one these on my Topeak Joe Blow Sport, which came with the two
sided head, and it really works nice. I got mine on sale, so look
around for the best price.

I say, go to a decent bike shop and ask for the Silca pump head that does
presta and schraeder. Cut the old crappy one off, new one on, small hose clamp.
These have replaceable innards and will out last the pump.

If your lbs looks at you with the 'thousand yard stare', call me and I'll send
the head and clamp to you-about $20 total.

find a cheap auto tire foot pump with a metal valve nipple latch.
or just eyeball one at disscunt auto or woolmort.
