Sure, any good shop can send a crank set with sprockets, bearings, and
pedals, or separately. There are enough such suppliers mentioned
here.

As Jobst pointed out, it's quite possible to buy just the arms.

The one thing that should be mentioned is that you'll often find out
that doing so costs just as much as buying an entire crank (with rings
and hardware), since the market for individual arms is much smaller,
so the carrying charges all along the distribution chain tend to be
higher.

Buying a whole new crank with rings might be cheaper than buying new rings when
the ones you have wear out-- IOW, you'll pay for "separates" twice in the long
run if you buy arms now and rings later.

If you like the 170's, chances are you can sell the 175 crank without rings
(but with bolts) pretty easily and for a decent price if it's in good shape
(rec.bikes.marketplace for instance). --TP

This is true, a whole crank with rings is usually cheaper. In fact it's usually
cheaper than buying two new chainrings. Check the web discount places. If you
don't want the rings, you can unload them on eBay.

Particularly with 170 mm cranks, you can save bucks with used cranks.

You can find 170 mm used cranks cheap since that is the most common size on new bikes, lots of people change from 170 cranks to something else or upgrade to some other 170 crank.

You can always find 170 cranks on ebay, or used sets at your LBS.

Of course, but often at 90% of the complete set price. That
ratio varies by brand/model but it won't be half of the set
price.
