  1. I find that November and March tend to be the worst months for
p+nct+res. The last few days I've been keeping very quiet about the
fact that I haven't had any so far this month, hoping not to attract the
attention of the P+nct+re Fairy. Unfortunately, it seems she can read
    minds.

After taking my tyre off this evening, I very quickly found the shard of
glass. On checking the rest of the tyre, I also found a thorn. I
reckon the thorn must have caused a slow puncture, deflating my tyre
enough to allow the glass to penetrate more easily. Bum.

And after all that, when I got home and updated my p+nct+re log I found
that I /had/ already had one this month. I had one on my way home on
    02/11/04.

  2. I once went about 5000 miles without a visit from said fairy, then hit a
brick and p*nct*red both tyres in approximately 0.1s.

Something similar happened me several years ago cycling from Camden to
Maida Vale in the dark. Either a brick or a block of wood on the road
punctured both tyres. As it was about 2am and there was virtually no
traffic (ergo, no taxis) I had to push the bike the whole way via the
    north side of Regent's Park.

You have them often enough to have a puncture log?????

I'm not gonna temp the P******* Fairy by saying which decade I last had
    one.

That was about the average I got with Nimbus Armadillos. The Gator
Skins have a much nicer feel to ride on though.

Most of my commute is on a cyclepath.

The idea of keeping a log is that, once I've kept it for a few years, I
can make a comparison between different tyres without having to rely on
my memory of how often a particular tyre p+nct+red. I also log where it
happened and what caused it. Actually, a look at the log belies my
perception that March and November are the worst time for punctures.
December was bad last year, and June was even worse (my aged front tyre
p+nct+red 6 times in 3 weeks, at the end of which I replaced it with
another tyre the same, but new).

So far I've kept a log for 21 months, in which time I've ridden about
4700 miles and had 42 p+nct+res. By tyre, that works out:

    Vredestein S-Lick (rear tyre) - 3500 miles, 21 p+nct+res
    Schwalbe Marathon (front tyre) - 3500 miles, 13 p+nct+res
Schwalbe Stelvio (rear tyre - 1200 summer miles, 3 p+nct+res
Schwalbe Stelvio (front tyre - 1200 summer miles, 5 p+nct+res

I plan to try the Schwalbe Marathon Plus on the back when the 35-559
version goes on sale in January.

I've done 2500 miles on Conti UGSs and have had no punctures. My Schwalbe
Marathon Plus on the hybrid has done twice that with not one puncture.

My experiment was that if one tyre gets a puncture - I threw it away. My
hybrid now has a Conti Contact front tyre and Schwalbe Marathon Plus rear
and neither has had a puncture over glass infested paths.

In the past two years I've done around 11000 miles, so you've either been
very unlucky or they've got sharper glass in the South West!

I think I had an exceptionally bad year last year. The second half of
2002 was pretty bad, too. Before that, I had a year or so with
relatively few punctures using Schwalbe Marathons on my recumbent, and
several good years prior to that using Vredestein S-Licks on my ATB.

Before discovering Marathons (Helga came fitted with them) I swore by
S-Licks, but now I prefer the Marathons and I'm keen to try the Marathon
Plus. Unfortunately the only size available for my back wheel would
require me to remove the mudguard, so I'm waiting for the narrower size
that LBS tells me is due to go on sale in January. If I like it then I
might start wishing for a sensible width 20" version to go on the front
    (currently the only 20" size is 20" x 1.75"😉.

I've had p@nct&res on both of the last two Sundays I've been out.

I didn't get one today, but then I was the only bugger that showed up,
so after standing in the freezing cold puddles that had gathered in my

Ahhh.. Is there a correlation between riding in the vehicle tracks on the
    road and distance between punctures?

My last puncture was a cheap halfords tyre blistering and wearing through.
Before that it was an old tyre splitting along the bead. First puncture ont
hat tyre and potentially in excess of ten thousand miles (Vredestein
    spider).

No punctures on the road bike since moving to Scotland (Schwalbe stelvio).
No punctures in the MTB apart from tyre failure.

Maybe (according to Crook and Fake) I am the cause of hundreds of cyclists
in Bristol and Birmingham having punctures every few hundred miles...

To them I just have one thing to say..

    Tough.

I think there's a negative correlation between p*nct*res and nice smooth
A roads. I have not gathered quantitative data so it is my anecdotal
    experience.
