  1. The default track setting is too high, too many points are tracked!

For example, 260+ points for a short walk from Horton to Pen-y-ghent and back.

I've now manually altered it to take a point every 50m, is this a good setting?

Firstly is that really too much when you can store nearly 40 of such
walks? Secondly the receiver will most likely store more points if the
reception conditions are poor - for instance when the unit is too close
to the user's body which then obstructs much of the sky. Therefore it
matters how you carry it if you want good results. I tent to carry mine
in the top pocket of a rucksack on or the shoulder strap to give it a
    good view.

Not really. I would leave it on auto and change the resolution from high
down a bit and see how you get on with the lower settings.

The auto setting is semi-intelligent in that it reduces the number of
points logged when travelling at steady speed in a straight line and
increases them when changes are happening. A blanket 50m will not be
nearly as well suited to recording the actual track.

Thanks for the feedback...just had a play and noticed it has four auto
settings - high, medium, low & lowest.

I'm planning to do a few short walks in the Lake District next
Wednesday/Thursday, I'll see how it goes.....on the auto - medium
    setting.
