I thought Channel 10's lead in headline was even better - "City under
siege". Come on, I think there were more people marching in the union
protest the day before than CM could muster, and we weren't under siege
then.

It goes to show what a wonderful country we live in when our biggest problem
is a bunch of cyclists slowing down the traffic for a short while.
I reckon the citizens of Fallujah would love to be besieged by demonstrating
cyclists.

Just my 0.2 dollars worth. (That makes 40 cents total today.)

Good turn out for Melb. My 1st time in 3yrs.
Didn't do the tunnel, although a few of us up front (going for citylink) got rounded up by the cops on the m'cycles when we broke from the main group when they turned off into Swan St.
Only saw one incident, turning car into a centre median parking spot, didn't catch the 500 cyclists in his rear view mirror as he turned into the spot & glanced a rider. All OK. Driver got out & made a show of it.

Didn't seem that distruptive really, had m/cycle escorts all the way & noticed the helicopter overhead. Even with stopping to bunch the pack & lifting the bikes (over our heads) in Swan st/Punt Rd & Chapel/Commercial rd I reckon the traffic delay would be 15min tops.
Numbers? 500-750 odd.

It was fun. We went for a ride, like the other 108-9-whatever other times this things occurred in Melbourne. We talked to lots of people, finished up at St Kilda beach. Lovely sunset, followed by a beautiful moonrise a few minutes later. Went to have a paddle but realised the water was kinda rank & hence kept the Axo's on. Went to the Espy, met more happy smiley folks. Repeat, it was fun.

Apparently the Victorian Government put on a big celebration of the 150th anniversairy of the Eureka Stockade on at Federation Square tonight, Apparently Australia is a better place because Peter Lalor & co decided to protest against the government about something. Apparently in the 21st century Australians not allowed to do that anymore. Or is that just Victorians? <end whinge>

the attendant at the Jam Factory car wash was almost going to do a job-lot of bike-washes for $50 until he realised there were approx 400 of us 🙂

i didnt get all the way to St K, but turned around at Hight St Prahran. As i made my way home riding along the Yarra (heading east) I saw about half a dozen police sitting up on the bikepath on the north side (approx 500 m east of the end of the pontoons)
The only reason i can think of them being there was to grab potential 2-wheeled-traffic using the tunnel 🙂
Anyone else see other groups like this?
