  1. Matt Damon is looking to run the Boston Marathon this April. Gee, must be
nice to go through life not having to pay at restaurants or qualify for races.
He's starting his training w/a 5 Mi turkey trot and looking to break 40 min. (8
    min/mile).

i bet the marketing directors of every shoe company have already sent him their
complete line of running shoes, multiple pairs.... along with all the gear for
him to wear something new every day. let the media blitz begin!

Can't anyone just pay extra to get into Boston? I thought they had some
    kind of charity deal.

Anyway, famous people getting a free pass into an event is nothing new.
    The sponsors like the publicity.

  5. That really gripes me. Yes, there are charities you can use to get into the
race but even those are difficult to get into!!
He should have to qualify like the rest of us. However, If I were the race
director I'd probably let him in too, they'll get a lot of attention with
him being there by nonrunners. Me, I don't give a hoot how well he runs...

Yeah, I gotta admit I don't mind at all that a lot of non-runners of
my acquaintance know about the NYC Marathon, thanks to P. Diddy. Those
races don't need publicity to get more entries, Goddess knows, but
they're adding value for their sponsors fer shur.

While I agree with your general sentiment, Matt Damon will not be the
only non-qualified entrant. There are a variety of
    corporate/charity/sponsor slots given each year.
