I have the same problem. Finally came to the conclusion that it is some sort
of strain on the muscles of my neck. It was a long time before I could
figure that out, as it was brought on by all sorts of situations. For
example, position of the rucksack was an obvious cause, but I also found
that in wet or windy weather I would pull up the hood on my
waterproof/windproof coat and that altered the mechanics of my neck movement
in such a way that long walks caused me pain. Other times I found that a
bulky camera hung on my neck/shoulders caused the headache. It has got
worse as I have gotten older. Now I am quite good at avoiding situations
that cause these headaches. If all else fails I take 1 paracetamol if I
have the slightest suspicion that such a headache is coming, I noticed that
1 pill taken in time often avoids the need to take a lot more the following
day.

Hi All,
Something that has been puzzling me for a while now...
I have been hillwalking for several years and in the last year or so i
have noticed that following a walk (of any length) i often get an
incredibly severe headache. the type that only lying down with my eyes
shut will improve - not easy when i have to drive home. This usually
occurs about 30 mins to 1 hour after the end of the walk.
I originally thought that it may be dehydration, but even on a short walk
of 8 miles i can (dont need to) drink 3 litres of water and still have the
same problem.
Anyone experienced anything similar or have any ideas?
